Territorial Acknowledgement

Centre Chiropratique Des Sources acknowledges that our clinic is located in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation, who are recognized as the custodians of the lands and waters on which we work and gather.

We also recognize Tiohtià:ke as a longstanding place of meeting and exchange among many First Nations, including the Kanien’kehá:ka of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat, the Abenaki and the Anishinaabeg.

We recognize and respect the enduring presence, cultures, histories and inherent rights of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Caring for the Community We Call Home

A territorial acknowledgement is an opportunity to recognize the history of the land on which we live and work. It also encourages continued reflection on our responsibilities to the people and communities around us and supports the efforts for Truth and Reconciliation.

At Centre Chiropratique Des Sources, caring for our community means providing a space where each patient is welcomed with respect, listened to carefully and provided with individualized chiropractic care based on their health history, examination findings, needs and personal goals.

Our chiropractic clinic is located on Sources Boulevard in Pointe-Claire, in Montreal’s West Island. We welcome patients from Pointe-Claire and surrounding communities, including Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Kirkland, Dorval and other areas of the West Island.

Our team provides services in both English and French and works with people at different stages of life, from children and adolescents to adults and older adults. Every person is different, and all recommendations are adapted to the patient’s age, health, comfort and clinical presentation.

Chiropractic Care for Different Stages of Life

Neuromusculoskeletal needs can change throughout life. Work, school, physical activity, pregnancy, previous injuries, repetitive movements and the natural changes associated with aging can all influence how a person moves and feels.

Chiropractic care is not identical for every patient. The techniques, treatment frequency, exercises and recommendations considered by a chiropractor should depend on the patient’s examination and individual circumstances.

Children and Adolescents

Children and adolescents may experience neuromusculoskeletal concerns related to growth, sports, falls, heavy school bags, prolonged screen use or repetitive activities.

When chiropractic care is considered appropriate for a younger patient, the assessment and treatment approach are adapted to the child’s age, size, development and specific needs. Parents or guardians are included in the discussion, and informed consent remains an essential part of care.

Adults and Working Professionals

Adults may consult a chiropractor for concerns connected to work, exercise, injuries or everyday activities.

Long periods of sitting, repetitive movements, physically demanding occupations and poorly arranged workstations may contribute to stiffness, discomfort or reduced mobility. Chiropractic treatment may be combined with exercise, postural recommendations and ergonomic advice to help patients manage these concerns and remain active.

Active Individuals and Athletes

Recreational and competitive activities can place repeated stress on muscles and joints. Patients may seek a chiropractic assessment following a sprain, strain, overuse injury or change in mobility.

Treatment is based on the nature of the injury and may include joint care, soft-tissue techniques, mobility work, exercise recommendations and advice for returning to activity appropriately.

Pregnancy and Changing Physical Demands

Pregnancy creates significant physical changes, including changes in posture, weight distribution and joint loading.

Pregnant patients experiencing neuromusculoskeletal discomfort may consult a chiropractor to determine whether chiropractic treatment is appropriate. Any care provided should be adapted to the stage of pregnancy, the patient’s comfort and the findings of the clinical assessment.

Older Adults

Maintaining movement, balance, confidence and independence can become increasingly important with age.

Older adults may consult a chiropractor about joint stiffness, reduced mobility, posture or musculoskeletal discomfort affecting daily activities. Treatment is adapted to the individual’s health history, bone and joint health, mobility and personal goals.

Conditions and Musculoskeletal Concerns We Assess and Treat

Chiropractors assess and treat neuromusculoskeletal conditions involving the joints, muscles and related structures.

Patients may consult our Pointe-Claire chiropractic clinic regarding concerns such as:

  • Lower-back discomfort
  • Neck pain or stiffness
  • Certain types of headaches
  • Joint pain and restricted movement
  • Sprains and strains
  • Tendinitis and repetitive-use concerns
  • Shoulder, wrist, hip, knee or ankle discomfort
  • Jaw or temporomandibular joint discomfort
  • Postural and occupational strain
  • Some disc-related or nerve-related symptoms
  • Musculoskeletal concerns following physical activity or injury

The presence of a symptom does not automatically mean that chiropractic care is appropriate. A proper examination helps the chiropractor determine the likely nature of the concern, whether treatment may be suitable and whether further investigation or referral to another healthcare professional is required.

People experiencing headaches can also read our guide to chiropractic care and headaches to learn more about assessment, possible contributing factors and individualized treatment.

An Individualized Chiropractic Assessment

Before recommending treatment, the chiropractor must first understand the patient’s condition.

An initial chiropractic visit may include a discussion of the patient’s symptoms, health history, previous injuries, medical conditions, work, physical activities and personal objectives.

Depending on the reason for consultation, the examination may include:

  • Postural assessment
  • Joint range-of-motion testing
  • Orthopedic testing
  • Neurological testing
  • Muscle and joint examination
  • Strength or balance testing
  • Assessment of movement and function

Diagnostic imaging may be considered when clinically indicated and within the chiropractor’s professional scope. It is not necessarily required for every patient.

After reviewing the findings, the chiropractor explains the clinical impression or diagnosis, discusses the available options and answers the patient’s questions. If chiropractic treatment is not appropriate, the patient may be referred to a physician or another qualified healthcare professional.

What May Be Included in Chiropractic Treatment?

A chiropractic treatment plan is developed according to the patient’s diagnosis, clinical findings, health history and goals.

Depending on the patient, care may include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments or joint mobilization
  • Soft-tissue techniques
  • Mobility or strengthening exercises
  • Postural recommendations
  • Workplace or home ergonomic advice
  • Guidance for modifying physical activities
  • General lifestyle recommendations related to neuromusculoskeletal health

The purpose of treatment may be to reduce discomfort, improve joint mobility, support physical function, manage recurring neuromusculoskeletal concerns or help the patient participate more comfortably in everyday activities.

Results vary between patients. The expected benefits, possible risks, alternatives and proposed treatment plan is discussed clearly before care begins.

Respect, Communication and Informed Consent

Respectful healthcare requires clear communication.

Patients should understand why an examination or treatment is being recommended, what it involves and what alternatives may be available. They should also have an opportunity to ask questions and make informed decisions about their care.

At Centre Chiropratique Des Sources, our goal is to provide a welcoming environment in which patients feel heard and included in the decision-making process.

This includes:

  • Listening to the patient’s concerns and objectives
  • Explaining examination findings clearly
  • Recommending care based on the individual assessment
  • Adapting techniques to the patient’s age and comfort
  • Obtaining informed consent
  • Reassessing progress when appropriate
  • Referring or collaborating with other healthcare professionals when necessary
